Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2026 · applies to the “Nettopia” app and this website

Protecting your data matters to us. Nettopia is built so that the app works without collecting any personal data: no account, no ads, no tracking.

This is a translation for your convenience. In case of doubt, the German version prevails.

2. The app

Processing on your device

All calculations take place exclusively on your device. Your inputs (e.g. salary, tax class, saved profiles) are only stored in the app's local storage so that they are available the next time you open it. They are not transmitted to us or any third party. You can delete them at any time under “More → Reset inputs” or by deleting the app.

No tracking, no ads

The app uses no analytics or tracking services, no advertising and no user account. The Firebase library is used solely for optional notifications (see below); Firebase Analytics is not included.

Updating the calculation values

To keep contribution rates, health insurance additional contributions and tax values up to date without an app update, the app downloads a public file containing these values at start-up and at most once per hour. The provider is Google Cloud Firestore (Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland), storage location Frankfurt am Main. No inputs, identifiers or device data are transmitted; for technical reasons Google processes your IP address and connection data to deliver the file. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in correct calculations (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Without an internet connection, the app keeps calculating with the most recently loaded values.

Notifications (optional)

Under “More → Notifications” you can choose to be informed about changes in a country (new laws, contribution rates, health insurers). This feature is switched off by default. Only when you switch it on and allow notifications in your operating system does the app register your device with Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). This involves a random installation ID and a device token for delivery (on iPhones via the Apple Push Notification service), the subscribed topics (country and language, e.g. “Changes in Germany, English”) and, for technical reasons, your IP address. Your inputs, results or other personal details are not transmitted; we cannot identify you and send the same message to everyone subscribed to a topic. A transfer to the USA cannot be ruled out; Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time by switching notifications off in the app – the device token is then deleted – or by disabling notifications in your system settings.

Sharing and PDF export

When you share a result or export it as a PDF, the content is handed over to the app or operating-system function you choose. The respective provider is responsible for any further processing.

App stores

When you download the app, Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) process data under their own responsibility. Their privacy policies apply.

3. This website

Hosting

This website is served by Google Firebase Hosting (Google Ireland Ltd.). When you visit it, the hosting provider processes technically necessary data such as IP address, date and time, requested page, referrer and browser identification (server log files) to deliver the website and keep it secure. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). A transfer to the USA cannot be ruled out; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

No cookies, no external content

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or marketing services and loads no third-party content (such as fonts, videos or maps). All files are delivered directly from our hosting.

Contact by email

If you contact us by email, we process your details to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once they are no longer needed for this purpose and no statutory retention obligations apply.

4. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. As we do not store any personal data about you, we generally have no data we could disclose.

5. Changes

We update this privacy policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
